IPA reps graduate from ‘observers’ to full CPE committee members

Three new appointments to Community Pharmacy England’s voting committee have been named as the negotiator seeks to “better reflect the make-up of the sector”

CPE also revealed that “long-standing committee member” and Company Chemists’ Association representative Claire Kerr of Rowlands Pharmacy has stood down as the CCA loses one of its seats.

Jardines managing director Has Modi and Pearl Chemist superintendent pharmacist Mayank Patel have become the first committee members to be nominated by the Independent Pharmacies Association, joining the three non-CCA multiple representatives already on the committee.

Having acted as ‘observers’ on the committee for a period, both now have full voting rights.

In addition, Dervis Gurol of Healthy-U pharmacy, an independent contractor and member of Community Pharmacy Sussex, has been chosen to take up an interim independent representative place, joining the 10 independent owners elected on a regional basis.

Mr Gurol’s appointment follows an invitation from CPE to owners of between one and nine pharmacies to express an interest in joining the committee.

All three new appointees were co-opted as the decision to change the committee’s composition was made outside of the usual election and nomination process, with CPE saying its executive team “moved quickly to implement the changes” ahead of its November committee meeting,

The next CPE elections will be held in April 2027.

“These changes to CPE’s composition aim to ensure all categories of pharmacy owners are appropriately represented on its committee and are part of wider work to even further strengthen governance,” the negotiator said.

Adrian Price, chair of CPE’s governance and people subcommittee, said: “The committee is pleased to be welcoming new members and increasing representation from the independent and 10-plus (non-CCA) multiple parts of the sector.

“Has, Mayank and Dervis will begin feeding into the critical day-to-day work of CPE with immediate effect and we look forward to working with them.”
